Executive Management Team

Tim Hockey , , , President and CEO

Tim Hockey is a financial services veteran with more than 33 years' experience in retail banking and wealth management and a passion for leveraging technology to enhance the client experience.

As President and CEO of TD Ameritrade, he is primarily responsible for the oversight of the strategy and operations supporting the company’s three client channels: Retail Investing, Trading and Institutional, along with additional responsibilities overseeing technology, operations and corporate functions.

Hockey joined TD Ameritrade in January 2016 from TD Bank Group, where he most recently served as Group Head, Canadian Banking and Wealth management, and as President and CEO of TD Canada Trust. His primary responsibilities covered a portfolio of global businesses totaling nearly CDN $13 billion in annual revenue and included global direct investing, advisory and Canadian asset management businesses, as well as leadership of Canadian personal banking, business banking and auto finance. Over his 32-year career with TD, he held senior positions in a variety of areas including mutual funds, retail distribution, information technology, core and small business, credit cards and personal lending.

Hockey holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario and sits on the Advisory Board of the Richard Ivey School of Business. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the SickKids Foundation, the largest non-governmental granting agency in children’s health in Canada, and was Chair of the Hospital for Sick Children’s Research and Learning Tower Campaign. He is on the board of The Greater Toronto CivicAction Alliance and served as the 2015 Honorary Chair for the Ride to Conquer Cancer.

He was an executive member of the Canadian Bankers Association, previously serving as Chair of the organization. He is also a past winner of Canada’s “Top 40 Under 40,” a program that celebrates Canadians who have reach significant success before the age of 40 in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

Prashant Bhatia , , , Managing Director, Corporate Strategy &
Business Development

Prashant Bhatia oversees corporate strategy, partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, business development, and industry and competitive analysis. He also serves as a member of the Company’s senior operating committee, which shapes the strategic focus of the organization.

Bhatia has more than two decades of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining TD Ameritrade in 2009, Bhatia served as a director in equity research at Citigroup, and before that he worked within the office of the Chairman for UBS America. He also spent time as a finance manager with Morgan Stanley & Co. and as a senior associate for Coopers & Lybrand L.L.P. His career experiences include: public accounting, controller of an investment banking and equities division, corporate mergers and acquisitions, and equity analysis covering brokers, banks, and asset management firms.

Bhatia holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting from the University of Connecticut and received his MBA from Columbia Business School. He holds Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designations.

Steve Boyle , , , Executive Vice President,
Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Financial Officer for TD Ameritrade, Steve Boyle is responsible for the Company’s investor relations and finance operations functions, including accounting, business planning and forecasting, and treasury and asset liability management. Boyle also serves as a member of the Company’s senior operating committee, which shapes the strategic focus of the organization.

Boyle brings nearly 30 years’ experience in financial services to this role. He joined Banknorth as Controller in 1997 and was named Executive Vice President and CFO in 2004. He remained in that role for the bank, which has since become TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, until joining TD Ameritrade in 2015.

Prior to joining Banknorth, Boyle served as the Director of Financial Reporting for Barnett Banks, Inc. and served in a variety of accounting roles for Fleet Financial Group and Arthur Andersen & Co.

Boyle received a Bachelor’s Degree in economics, cum laude from Wake Forest University, and attended NYU Business School where he received a Master’s Degree in accounting. He is a professional member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Peter deSilva , , , President, Retail Distribution

As head of TD Ameritrade’s division supporting retail investors, Peter deSilva is responsible for the company's branch network, investor service and sales call centers, guidance solutions, and investment products. He is intimately involved in the effort to integrate Scottrade Financial Services, Inc.’s 3.9-million client accounts to TD Ameritrade following the company’s acquisition of the peer broker-dealer in September 2017. He also serves as a member of TD Ameritrade’s executive leadership team, the Senior Operating Committee, which shapes the strategic focus of the organization.

deSilva joins TD Ameritrade from Scottrade, where he also led the Retail division. Prior to joining Scottrade in 2016, he was the president and chief operating officer of UMB Financial Corp, a position he held from 2004 to 2015. Before that, from 1987 to 2004, deSilva worked with Fidelity Investments, where he served in several leadership positions including senior vice president/general manager of Fidelity Retail and senior vice president of Fidelity Brokerage Company.

deSilva holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Dartmouth.

Karen Ganzlin , , , Executive Vice President,
Chief Human Resources Officer

Karen Ganzlin is responsible for the overall management of human resources functions at TD Ameritrade, including associate (employee) relations, compensation and benefits, workforce policies and programs, talent acquisition, talent and organizational development, diversity and inclusion strategies, HR shared services and HR technology as well as the Company's corporate real estate strategy and facilities, and executive and physical security. She also serves as a member of the Company's senior operating committee, which shapes the strategic focus of the organization. Ganzlin also holds a role as Chair of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Omaha, which focuses on building stronger communities by providing affordable and safe housing.

Prior to joining the Company in 2005, Ganzlin was the senior vice president of human resources in wealth management with TD Bank Group (TDBG). In her career she has held numerous senior management positions with TDBG, including vice president of group human resources, vice president of group operations and director of branch services operations. Prior to that, Ganzlin held administrative management positions within the commercial branch network in Alberta.

Ganzlin received bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Calgary and completed the Executive Development Program from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.

Denise Karkos , , , Chief Marketing Officer

As chief marketing officer, Denise Karkos is responsible for the overall management of TD Ameritrade’s marketing and advertising to the long-term investor, trader and advisor segments. In this role, she leads segment strategy, brand and advertising, social media and content marketing, marketing analytics, marketing technology and operations, and corporate communications. She serves as a member of the Company's senior operating committee, which shapes the strategic focus of the organization. Karkos has also served as managing director of brand and advertising and managing director of retail segment strategy within the firm.

Prior to joining TD Ameritrade in 2010, Karkos spent four years with TD Bank as the senior vice president of marketing planning. In this role, she managed the retail marketing strategy and helped grow the business organically and through acquisitions.

She had early career experience in media planning and buying with a focus on digital at Initiative Media, Hill Holliday and Digitas. Karkos also drove broader marketing strategies, focusing on advertising, CRM, branding and partnership marketing at L.L.Bean, Outside Television and VIA.

Karkos was elected as a new member of the Ad Council's Board of Directors in 2016. Throughout her career, she has received multiple marketing honors, including a Clio, numerous Webby, ADDY, and Financial Communications Society (FCS) awards. Her more recent accolades include an Advertising Women of New York Changing the Game – Paradigm Shift award in 2015 and a 2016 Cojone’s award, presented to her at South by Southwest.

Karkos received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Notre Dame.

David Kimm , , , Executive Vice President,
Chief Risk Officer

David Kimm works with business units throughout TD Ameritrade to identify and manage the organization's credit, market and operational risks. He also serves as a member of the Company's senior operating committee (SOC), which shapes the strategic focus of the organization.

Kimm comes to TD Ameritrade with nearly 30 years in financial services, nearly 15 of which have included work in risk management. He most recently served as the senior vice president and CRO for Wachovia Securities LLC, during which time he established the brokerage firm's risk management organization and was responsible for risk strategy, reporting, risk assessments, operational risk, credit/counterparty management and oversight of the company's margin portfolio.

Prior to joining Wachovia, Kimm served in a financial leadership capacity with several other notable organizations, including LPL Financial Services, Fidelity Investments, Cowen & Company and PaineWebber, Inc.

Kimm attended Michigan State University and received his master's in business administration from New York University.

Ellen Koplow , , , Executive Vice President,
General Counsel, Secretary

Ellen L.S. Koplow has served as general counsel of TD Ameritrade since June 2001 and was named secretary in November 2005. She manages the Company’s legal and government relations departments. She joined the Company in May 1999 as deputy general counsel and was named acting general counsel in November 2000.

Prior to joining the TD Ameritrade , Ms. Koplow was managing principal of the Columbia, Maryland office of Miles & Stockbridge P.C. Ms. Koplow graduated cum laude from the University of Baltimore Law School in 1983 where she was a member of the Heuisler Honor Society, a Scribes Award winner and a Comments Editor for the Law Review.

Ms. Koplow holds a B.A. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland. She was a member of the New York Stock Exchange Commission on Corporate Governance which resulted in a Report published on September 23, 2010 and completed the Rock Center for Corporate Governance Directors College series held at Stanford Law School for 2010 and 2009. She was twice selected as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Maryland in 2011.

Tom Nally , , , President,
TD Ameritrade Institutional

Tom Nally oversees the strategy and deployment of initiatives for the Advisor segment at TD Ameritrade. He also serves as a member of the Company's senior operating committee, which shapes the strategic focus of the organization.

Tom Nally is responsible for all business functions at TD Ameritrade Institutional1. As president of TD Ameritrade Institutional, Nally sets the vision for key initiatives supporting independent registered investment advisors (RIAs), a growing and dynamic segment of the wealth management industry. Nally has more than 20 years of experience working with advisors and leads a tenured team focused on serving more than 4,500 independent RIAs who custody assets with TD Ameritrade Institutional.

A recognized leader and advisor advocate, Nally was named to Investment Advisor Magazine’s annual list of the 25 most influential people in the industry in 2012 and 2014. Under Nally’s leadership, TD Ameritrade Institutional has experienced strong growth and has earned accolades for delivering innovative technology to help RIAs run and build their businesses. With a focus on the future, Nally has championed efforts to attract and support the Next Generation of advisors including launching the TD Ameritrade Institutional NextGen Scholarship and Grant Program and the TD Ameritrade RIA Intern Network.

Prior to being named president, Nally was responsible for TD Ameritrade Institutional Sales. Nally and his team developed new advisor relationships and provided practice management and consultative support to help RIAs achieve their business goals. Over his tenure, he has held multiple management positions in various key segments of the business, including responsibility for trading, fixed income, advisor relations, client service, advisor technology, account services and operations.

Nally graduated from Rider University with a degree in Finance and completed the Securities Industry Institute program at the Wharton School of Business. In 2013, he completed Executive Education coursework at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Nally currently holds Series 7, 8, 24 and 63 licenses.

Steve Quirk , , , Executive Vice President,
Trader Group

Steven Quirk oversees the strategy and deployment of initiatives for trading at TD Ameritrade. He also serves as a member of the Company's senior operating committee, which shapes the strategic focus of the organization.

Under Quirk’s leadership, TD Ameritrade debuted the Investor Movement Index (IMX), a proprietary, behavior-based index that aggregates Main Street investor positions and activity. Quirk focuses on teaching the next generation of investors and championed the creation of the TD Ameritrade U program to bridge the gap between academia and reality in the classroom.

Prior to his current role, Quirk was responsible for the development of new trading tools and technology enhancements for the thinkorswim trading platform.

Quirk's trading career began in 1987 on The Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). While at the CBOE, he served on the exchange's Index Market Performance Committee and the Arbitration Committee. He was a partner with SCMS for 7 years, trading options on index products. He also led the Chicago operations of Van der Moolen USA.

He is often asked to comment on the markets and for insight into Retail Client Behavior and has been featured on CNBC, Fox Business, Barron’s and The Wall Street Journal.

Quirk graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a B.B.A. in Risk/Insurance and Marketing. He holds Series 3, 4, 7 and 24 licenses.

Vijay Sankaran , , , Chief Information Officer

As Chief Information Officer of TD Ameritrade, Vijay Sankaran is responsible for incubating, introducing and managing new capabilities, as well as for the implementation of the company’s data and analytics ecosystem, including bringing enhanced personalization to the client experience. Sankaran also serves as a member of the Company’s senior operating committee, which shapes the strategic focus of the organization.

Sankaran’s teams are further responsible for two major technology programs at the company: Digital Guidance, which utilizes technology to enhance clients’ access to investment advice, and ongoing innovation for the company’s award-winning trading platform, thinkorswim. He leads TD Ameritrade’s collaborative technology center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Prior to joining TD Ameritrade, Sankaran held several senior leadership roles at Ford Motor company, including: IT Chief Technology Officer, leading advanced technology, technology strategy, data and analytics, and architecture across the enterprise; Director of Application Development, with responsibility for global application development and the delivery of major programs and projects; and Director of Infrastructure Operations, with responsibility for operational support for infrastructure, as well as Ford’s largest data centers in North America. Before joining Ford, Sankaran served in consultancy roles with Ernst & Young LLP and Headstrong, where he focused heavily on analytical systems.

Sankaran holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Master’s of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Board of Directors

Joseph H. Moglia , , , Chairman

Joe Moglia is the current Chairman of the Board at TD Ameritrade and the head football coach and Chair of Athletics at Coastal Carolina University.

In the business world, in 1984, Moglia entered the MBA Training Program at Merrill Lynch where there were 25 MBAs and one football coach. By 1988, he was Merrill Lynch’s Number One Producer in the World.

He ultimately had responsibility for Global Fixed Income Institutional Sales, the Municipal Division, Investment Products, the Insurance Company, the 401(k) Business, and Middle Market Business, and he served on the Executive Committee for both the Institutional and Private Client Businesses.

He became the CEO of TD Ameritrade in 2001. Over the next seven years, shareholders enjoyed a 500% return as the firm grew its market cap from $700 million to $10 billion, and client assets reached $280 billion. In 2008, after the firm had its sixth record year in a row, Moglia stepped down as CEO and became Chairman of the Board.

In his last nine seasons of coaching college football, Moglia has been part of seven championship teams. In his first four seasons at Coastal, he led his team to the National Playoffs four times and three conference championships while being named Conference Coach of the Year twice, as well as AFCA Regional Coach of the Year in 2014 and winner of the prestigious Eddie Robinson Award for National Coach of the Year in 2015.

This season will be Moglia’s 25th as a Football Coach, but it’s not a traditional 25 years. He began his career as a coach for 16 years, moved to the business world for over 20, and back to coaching in 2009.

In his first stint as a coach, he won two Ivy League Championships as the Defensive Coordinator at Dartmouth, led units that set defense and kicking records at Lafayette, and turned two high school programs around. Before going to Coastal, he was Executive Advisor for Football at Nebraska where he was part of two Holiday Bowls and two Big 12 North Championships. In 2011 he was Head Coach of the Omaha Nighthawks in the United Football League.

Moglia has received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Sharp Trophy for Leadership. He has been honored by the National Italian American Foundation, the Columbus Citizens Foundation, the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame, and the American Institute for Stuttering. He has been inducted into four Halls of Fame, is the recipient of three Honorary Doctorates and is also the only author to have written books published on both investing and football.

Larry Bettino , ,

Larry Bettino has more than 25 years of technology-focused, venture capital and private equity investing experience. He is currently Senior Advisor at StarVest Partners, LLC, a firm focused on investing in high-growth technology-based businesses.

Over his career Bettino has achieved a unique combination of technological and financial expertise working with firms such as IBM, Dillon Read Venture Capital, Baker Capital, Warburg Pincus and in his current role with StarVest Partners. He has significant experience in the technology areas of software, cloud-based computing, data management, application development, social media and mobility. His functional expertise has included business plan development, sales and marketing, pricing strategy, and business process and workflow.

Bettino holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master’s of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Ann Hailey , ,

Ann Hailey has accumulated more than 30 years of finance, retail and operations expertise through executive leadership positions at companies such as Mobil Oil Corporation, Pepsico, Inc., Duggan Consulting Associates, Inc., Nabisco Holdings Group, Inc., Pillsbury Company, Limited Brands, Inc. and Gilt Groupe, Inc. She most recently served as president, chief executive officer and chief financial officer of Famous Yard Sale, Inc.

Hailey holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia and a Master’s of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School. She currently sits on the board of directors for Avon Products, Inc., Realogy Holdings Corporation and W.W. Grainger, Inc.

Brian Levitt , ,

Levitt is the chairman of the board for TD Bank Group, a position he has held since 2011. He is also the vice-chair of Osler, Hoskin, & Harcourt LLP, which he first joined in 1976. He was named a partner in 1979, and in 1991 left the practice to become president and subsequently CEO of Imasco Limited, a Canadian consumer products and services company. Imasco was sold in 2000, and Levitt returned to Osler in 2001.

Levitt holds a law degree from the University of Toronto, where he also completed his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is a 2014 recipient of the Institute of Corporate Directors Fellowship Awards, which annually recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to corporate, not-for-profit and Crown corporation boards across Canada.

Karen E. Maidment , ,

Karen Maidment was chief financial and administrative officer of BMO Financial Group from 2007 to 2009, and was responsible for all global finance operations, risk management, legal and compliance, tax, communications and mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to that time, Maidment had been senior executive vice president and chief financial officer, as well as executive vice president and chief financial officer of BMO from 2003 to 2007 and 2000 to 2003, respectively.

Before her career at BMO, Maidment held several executive positions with Clarica Life Insurance Company from 1988 to 2000, including chief financial officer. Additionally, Maidment is a past director of Harris Bank, BMO Nesbitt Burns, where she was also Chair of the Audit Committee, Bank of Montreal Pension Fund, Mutual Trustco, MCAP Financial and The Mutual Group (US). Maidment currently serves on the board of directors of TransAlta.

She holds a bachelor's degree of commerce from McMaster University and is a Chartered Accountant. In addition, she was named to Canada's Most Powerful Women Top 100 Lists from 2002-2007 and the Hall of Fame in 2007, as well as Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 2000.

Bharat Masrani , ,

Bharat Masrani was appointed Group President and Chief Executive Officer of TD Bank Group (“TD Bank”) on November 1, 2014.

Bharat has more than 27 years of banking experience and is a member of the TD Bank Group Board of Directors. He most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for TD Bank Group from July 2013.

Bharat has held many senior executive roles across the bank. In 2006, he became the President of TD Banknorth, and in 2007, President and CEO. In 2008, he was named Group Head U.S. Personal and Commercial Banking and President and CEO of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®.

Previous to his role at TD Bank, he served as Vice Chair and Chief Risk Officer of TD Bank Group, a position he held from May 2003. Bharat also served as Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of TD Waterhouse Investor Services in Europe; Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance and Co-Head in Europe; Vice President and Country Head for India; and Vice President and Head, Corporate Banking Canada. He began his banking career with TD Bank Group in 1987 as a Commercial Lending Trainee.

Bharat received a Bachelor of Administrative Studies degree with Honours from York University in 1978 and obtained his Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business, York University in 1979.

Irene Miller , ,

Irene Miller is the chief executive officer of Akim, Inc., an investment management and consulting firm, and the former vice-chairman and chief financial officer of Barnes & Noble, Inc. She previously held senior banking and corporate finance positions with Morgan Stanley & Co. and Rothchild Inc.

Miller holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of Toronto and a Master’s Degree in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. She currently sits on the board of directors for both TD Bank Group and Inditex, S.A.

Mark L. Mitchell , ,

Mark Mitchell served as a director of the Company from December 1996 until January 2006 and served as a member of the Company's board of advisors in 1993. He was reelected as a director in November 2006. He is a principal at CNH Partners, LLC, an investment management firm, which he co-founded in 2001.

Mitchell was a finance professor at Harvard University from 1999 to 2003 and was a finance professor at the University of Chicago from 1990 to 1999. He was a senior financial economist for the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1987 to 1990, a member of the NASDAQ quality of markets committee from 2003 to 2005, and a member of the economic advisory board of the NASD from 1995 to 1998.

Mitchell received a doctorate in applied economics and a master's degree in economics from Clemson University. He received a bachelor's degree (summa cum laude) in economics from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Wilbur J. Prezzano , ,

Wilbur Prezzano was employed with Eastman Kodak Company for over 30 years. He served in various positions during that time, including vice chairman of Eastman Kodak Company and chairman and president of Kodak's greater China region, the positions that he held at the time of his retirement in 1996.

Prezzano currently serves a director of The Toronto-Dominion Bank, EnPro Industries, Inc., Lance, Inc., and Roper Industries, Inc.

He received a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in business administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Todd M. Ricketts , ,

Todd Ricketts is an experienced businessman and investor with a deep commitment to policies that promote economic opportunity and entrepreneurism.

As a small business owner, a member of the Boards of Directors for the Chicago Cubs, and a successful early stage investor, Todd has worked across the United States business ecosystem. That perspective, coupled with his service as Chief Executive Officer for Ending Spending, a national advocacy group focused on finding solutions to the nation’s fiscal crisis, has provided Todd with a practical view about how to create economic opportunity through business development. Earlier in his career, Todd worked in the securities industry at Knight Securities, Incapital, and TD Ameritrade.

Todd serves as Vice Chairman of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, and sits on the board of Opportunity Education Foundation. He is a Regent at Loyola University Chicago. He is also active with the Churchill Centre.

Allan Tessler has been chairman of the board and chief executive officer of International Financial Group, Inc., an international merchant banking firm, since 1987. He is also chairman of the board of Epoch Investment Partners, Inc., formerly J Net Enterprises.

He has previously served as chief executive officer of J Net Enterprises, co-chief executive officer of Data Broadcasting Corporation, now known as Interactive Data Corporation, chairman of Enhance Financial Services Group, Inc. and chairman and principal shareholder of Great Dane Holdings.

Tessler is the lead director and chair of the finance committee of Limited Brands, Inc. and also serves as a director of EnerCrest. He serves as chairman of the board of trustees of the Hudson Institute and is a member of the board of governors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Tessler holds a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and an L.L.B. from Cornell University Law School.
