Chairman
Joe Moglia's vision and leadership greatly influenced TD AMERITRADE's evolution over the last decade, from a small "dot com" brokerage to one of the most widely-recognized names in financial services. In his seven years as CEO of the Company, Moglia remained faithful to his game plan making carefully calculated business decisions that center only on the needs of the firm's clients, shareholders and associates.
Under Moglia's leadership, TD AMERITRADE shareholders enjoyed a 500 percent return, despite the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The Company's market cap grew from $700 million to $10 billion and client assets grew from $24 billion to $280 billion. TD AMERITRADE also led the industry in consolidation, including the two largest such transactions with Datek Online Holdings and TD Waterhouse Group, Inc., and became a global leader in equity transactions. His leadership skills and charisma inspired the Company's management and associates to take pride in the firm's mission to provide financial literacy for the typical American family.
As chairman, Moglia now represents TD AMERITRADE shareholders at the board level, providing strategic guidance in shaping the growth strategy of the firm. His goal is to help ensure that the firm continues to grow and deliver profitability, and that the needs and concerns of shareholders are addressed in the decision-making process.
Moglia joined TD AMERITRADE in 2001 after spending 17 years at Merrill Lynch, where he was a member of the executive committees for both the institutional business and the private client business. Before leaving, he was responsible for all investment products, the insurance company, the 401(k) business and the middle market business.
Prior to entering the financial services industry, Moglia coached football for 16 years, where he won two Ivy League Championships as defensive coordinator at Dartmouth College. He also set national and school records as the defensive secondary and special teams coach at Lafayette College, turned two high school programs around, wrote a book on football, authored numerous articles in national coaching journals and has been inducted into two halls of fame.
In 2005, Moglia was honored by the National Italian American Foundation for his business leadership accomplishments. He was again honored by the Columbus Citizens Foundation in 2006 for his lifetime of professional achievements. In 2009 he received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and was honored at the American Institute for Stuttering with an Achievement Award.
In 2005, Moglia authored "Coach Yourself to Success: Winning the Investment Game," which explains the essential principles of investing through in-depth insight and practical advice. He is the only author to have published books on both investing and football.
Moglia is currently the leadership and life skills consultant for football at the University of Nebraska. He is a member of the board of directors of AXA Financial, Creighton University, the National Italian American Foundation, Fordham Preparatory School, the Omaha Chamber of Commerce, the Boy Scouts of America, and he serves as a member of the STRATCOM Consultation Committee. He holds a master's degree in secondary education from the University of Delaware and a bachelor's degree in economics from Fordham University.
